Brand new aerial photos of Hawaii-Part 1

November 10, 2018

I’m back! Sorry about the very long delay since my last blog post. While I have been AWOL writing my regular blog posts, I have actually been very busy creating a lot of new work: both aerial photos and land based photos.

For the next few weeks, I’ll be highlighting my new aerial photography work, and then move on to the new land based photos. Let’s get to first of the aerial photos!

On the eastern shore of Kauai Hawaii lies a long stretch of beach between the Wailua River and Nukolii. Filling up most of this coast is the County of Kauai’s Wailua Golf Course. Using my DJI Phantom drone, above, we can see a wide view of the beach and coastline with the oceanfront green of the 14th hole front and center, and Kalepa ridge in the background.

Using my drone, I flew just mauka of the 14th hole and then manoeuvred my camera back towards the beach at a steep downward angle. I wanted to capture the beach and the green in the same shot.

For the final shot of this post, I moved my drone directly over the green, and angled my camera to point directly downwards, so that I could capture the curve of the golf cart road, and long shadows and patterns that the early dawn light cast over the golf course green and sand traps.

Remember, all of my photography is for sale as fine art prints and canvases. If you’re an art director or photo editor, you can license my work for your commercial or editorial project. Contact me for more information, or go to my web page; markjohnson.com.

Stay tuned, next week I have more Hawaii aerial photos to showcase.

Until next time, Aloha,

Mark

Mark A. Johnson

My name is Mark Johnson, and I’m a professional ocean, travel and adventure photographer. As a young kid, I started surfing at Kailua Beach in Hawaii, and as I got better, progressed to Pipeline and other North Shore spots, and then to surfing on Kauai and around the world. I live in Australia, and travel to Hawaii each year.
From my early teens, when I started shooting surfers and waves, I was in demand by my fellow water lovers, and when my first photograph was published in Surfing at the age of 18, my work was also sought after by photo editors, art directors, and regular folks who bought my fine-art prints. I’m far from only a surfing and wave photographer; my love of traveling and nature has allowed me to branch into those photographic realms as well.
